Core Course 1-Theoretical Base of Education

Course Outcomes 

"Learning is better when we do it together."



At the end of the course, the graduating teacher is required to

CO1. Demonstrate an awareness of and an understanding of the teaching profession and the role played by public education in contemporary society.

CO2. Articulate a rationale for becoming a teacher and explain a personal philosophy of education that incorporates relevant theories, approaches and models of education.

CO3. Demonstrate an understanding of the interactive role of education and society and the role of education in promoting desired socialchanges.

CO4. Value the involvement and support of parents, guardians, families and communities in schools.

CO5. Be a reflective practitioner, demonstrate readiness to change the teaching strategy, identify professional needs applicable to the knowledge era and work to meet those needs individually and collaboratively and engage in career-long learning.



PRACTICUM 1 (COs addressed- CO1 and CO2) Nov. 15 – Dec.4  


Is teaching a profession or vocation? - What benefits can teachers accomplish from developing a personal philosophy?

A teaching philosophy is a self-reflective statement of one’s beliefs about teaching and learning. Writing a statement of teaching philosophy is a cornerstone of reflective and scholarly practice in teaching and learning.

PRACTICUM 2 (COs addressed - CO3 and CO4) Dec.5 – Jan 4


How far has the school scenario changed in recent times and what roles do stakeholders play now?
The Kerala school system also has been in a flux of sweeping curricular changes for more than a decade. What is the true nature of these changes?  Have the teachers, heads and the general public internalized the real spirit of curricular changes? What will be the nature of schooling in the coming decades? Are we going in the right direction?

What supports do our families, community and society in general fail to provide to our children?

PRACTICUM 4 (CO addressed CO5) Feb.1- Feb 28


What are the demands of the ’knowledge era’ and how does reflective practice help in the professional development?
